Topaz is a silicate of aluminium containing fluorine and hydroxyl( Al2*(SiO4)(OH,F)2). In the past topaz mainly referred to a gemstone, olivine, extracted on an island then known as Topazos or St. John, and is now called Zebirget in the Red Sea.
