yes, it does. houmor, being a joke, the sunny side of a problem, athe trick of not tatking ourselves too seriously, a simple smile will improve a mood. maybe not all of it or maybe not the bigger part of it, but it will.
it will make the dark mood lighter, the problem easier to bare, the answer easier to find, the anxiety less.
it has been proven that laughtern makes for a better health.
try smiling at yourself in the mirror. the forced smile will turn to an easier, more relaxed one and your mood will shift to the better.

From personal experience, even in a crisis. Wit and humour break the intensity; have a good laugh, then deal with whatever needs to be done.

It depends, if you are not in the mood for humor and someone makes a joke, you may become even more angry, however, sometimes it will snap you out of your bad mood and force you to crack a smile.....Overall, I believe humor, on average, does improve one's mood.
