It's completely normal don't worry. Your doctor just wants to double check how far along you are. I had my first ultrasound done when I was 5 weeks pregnant. It was cool because I get to see my baby (well the Lima bean looking thing! lol) but it was still my baby! :)

Are you unsure of your conception date? Maybe he is trying to confirm it?

ALWAYS ask your caregiver questions if you are unsure about something. Take a notebook so you can write down questions ahead of time and answers when they are given. You are PAYING for your doctor's time. Be sure you get the answers you need.

And know that you do not have to consent to anything you don't want and they can't do anything without your consent.

Ultrasounds are NOT supposed to be a routine procedure and are supposed to only be done if there is a medical indication. Unfortunately, many doctors ignore this guideline and do them routinely at every appointment! In contrast, many women who see midwives never have an ultrasound because they never had a medical indication one was needed.

I had a "routine u/s" with my first when I saw an OB. I had no u/s at all with babies #2 and #3 when I saw midwives.

Dont be worried, your going to feel things you never thought you could when you get the see the baby for the first time. The doctor is going to be checking to make sure the baby is in the uterus and measure for an accurate due date. Sit back and enjoy. Congratulations!

Totally normal. My Dr. did one at about that time (transvaginal ultrasound) to confirm the pregnancy. The next was around 20 weeks.

Congrats!

Usually, that early, they just want to verify how far along you are. Don't worry. You'll be fine.
