Um, the crocs here in Florida are American crocs, (crocodylus acutus), Niles are from Africa (hence Nile river) and are crocodylus niloticus. Sorry, I'll leave it at that, there's other work to be done. ;)
I answered this last night I think, but here goes again....
There are only two species of alligator in the world, the american alligator and the chinese alligator (a. mississippiensis and a. sinensus) and there are 23 species of crocodile throughout the tropical and subtropical areas of the world. (Florida is the only place in the world with alligators and crocodiles)
Alligators are a dark grey/charcoal/black with lighter colored bands, while crocodiles range from khaki brown to golden.
The scutes (osteoderms, bony plates) on an alligator's back are in straight rows and do not spill over onto the animal's sides. Crocodile scutes are more pronounced and spill over not only onto the sides, but in some species all the way into the belly skin.
Alligator's teeth are conical and the lower teeth fit into sockets in the upper jaw, giving them the appearance of having an overbite. Crocodile teeth are more daggerlike, and mesh, giving a snaggletoothed grin.
Alligators have golden eyes, crocodiles have green eyes, not that I ever hope you have to identify if it's a gator or a croc by the color of it's eyes.
I hope that's enough for you, I could be here all day if I let myself.

Alligators are one of my favorite animals! The visual difference between an alligator and a crocodile are their snouts. Alligators have a shovel-like snout whereas crocodiles have a more pointed snout. They are awesome creatures. They're practically dinosaurs.
And there are fresh water crocodiles... Florida has a species of crocodiles as well as Egypt (Nile crocodiles). The Nile also has pink dolphins... just so you know!
