Psychics and/or Astrologers claim to be able to read one's character (history, future, whatever)
In fact, there is NO evidence to support psychic ability, and plenty to counter the claims they make.
Horoscopes, for instance, are vague for a reason; you can more easily assign a correct "hit", after-the-fact. Especially when you are unfamiliar with the prediction's meaning. If we want to find a connection, we easily can.
I encourage everyone to at least check the first link where James "the Amazing" Randi gives out the same horoscope predictions to an entire group of people and THEY ALL find ways to make it fit their lives!
All psychics work in a similar vague-to-specific way (often through "cold reading" - see second link, but there is also "warm" and "hot" reading).
The third link has J Randi confronting another charlatan
The sad truth is that psychics don't just provide some cute entertainment; it can be quite harmful for people to really believe this stuff; people can lose large amounts of cash or even (tragically) alter their lives based upon purely fictitious claims.
Lastly, I give you the One Million Dollar Challenge: If anyone wants to prove they have psychic abilities this is their best chance at vindication (no winners to date)
No Money = No Ability... no argument

My favorite way to check out a psychic would be to see if there's a "Psychic Fair" scheduled in your city. You might try running it in a search engine with the name of your city, to find out. The cool thing about Psychic Fairs is that they aren't terribly expensive, and you can "try out" several different psychics (and different types--past life readers, Tarot readers, clairvoyants) for only $10 or so each. Then you get face-to-face time. If there's someone you really trust, *then* you can be more comfortable setting up a private reading.

Are you sceptical or do you beleive in what psychics do?
Are you looking for answers to a situation in your life?

Only if you want to. Keep in mind, most of ones you find around are not for real. But they can be good for entertainment purposes. I find the real ones do not advertise, but gain popularity by word of mouth only.

If you're interested in separating yourself from some money, that's a pretty reliable way to do it, and you won't be troubled by any annoying verifiable results, either.
