Blood type is always genetically determined. A and B are dominant, and O is recessive. It's very simple.

Someone who is genotype AO or AA has A.
Someone who is genotype BO or BB has B.
Someone who is geonotype OO has O.
Someone who is genotype AB has AB.

The Rhesus system is independent - positive is dominant and negative is recessive.
