A little bit of both for me.
I like things to happen how I want them to happen. However, this is definitely not the case.
So, I believe things happen for a reason. When something actually happens, I try to make the best of it and see what the reasoning is behind it. Once I do that, it makes it much easier to deal with and also allows me to think of new things that I want to happen all over again.

For myself personally, it's mostly a let down, ie I feel very disappointed in a lot of people mostly because they don't share the same values and standards that I do. For my kids, the possibilities are endless, and their futures an unwritten book theirs for the making.
I think when I was younger I had a lot more ambition and certainly a different and more positive outlook. I could make anything happen and did accomplish all I set out to do.
But as one ages and take on more responsibilities, your priorities, outlook and goals shift. I think I've realized I really can't change anyone. If people want to help or participate they will. Other's it's not worth the effort.
Maybe it's cynicism in part too but I just don't care anymore when so few people don't seem to either; or when they are just happy to let you do it for them when you set out and volunteer to help with something or even worse, set out to intentionally make you fall. So for the most part, forget it. Let people fend for themselves, at least those who have nothing wrong with their little old feet, brains and hands. Charity begins at home, and my immediate world is where my attention stays focused these days. You can't be everything to everyone, try as you may.

I tend to see the world through rose-colored glasses in spite of a childhood which should make me just the opposite. I tend to be trusting and believe that people have to 'earn' my DIS-trust. I tend to think most people are good and are motiviated by what they at least BELIEVE is right. I believe that most people want to love and be loved just like I do.

I see the world my way or it's the highway lol
I think both, you need the information and then you need to judge, weigh and decide. There has to be a middle or you can become a fanatic (on either side).
