What vwas the name of the ship? How is this a tragedy or triumph or both?

The tragedy was that he lost is son and some other colleagues in an accident while diving on the Atocha.

You can actually buy pieces of Spanish gold from the Atocha at Mel Fisher's Museum in Key West - pretty cool!

Mel Fisher is described as a visionary on his website (see link below) and the world's greatest treasure hunter.

The ship he successfully found was the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha.

It was certainly a triumph as the cache on the ship was worth $450 million. Although he had to go through a lot of court battles, I'm not sure you'd describe finding treasure of this value a tragedy.

Fair dos DGS - didn't realise there had been loss of life involved - not mentioned on the home page of his website.

mel is a teasure hunter. he makes a living off of finding sunken ships.
