I have been over 3cm dilated for over a week, but she said i'm not really effaced.... how can that be? I though you had to efface in order to dilate? Is there any way to make your cervix efface?

I'm not sure how you could make yourself efface. Just make sure to rest while you can, because you could go into active labor at anytime.

I don't know what that guy was talking about in that other post. You do not need to be induced to efface! It's completely normal to walk around for a couple of weeks at 3 cm dilate, and not effaced. Effacement meaning the thinning of the cervix, measured in percentages. You are right that they usually go hand in hand, but for the first few centimeters of dilation, it doesn't always work that way.

I can't remember anything that will specifically help effacement, but taking Evening Primrose Oil will help soften the cervix, making it easier to thin and open. You can take the oil either through your mouth, or before bed inserting then next to the cervix. Do your own research on this and check with your health care provider first.

Having sex will also help soften up the cervix. Semen is prostaglandin. Please do not insert anything into your vagina if you think your water has broken though for risk of infection.

The other person said washing your nipples will help, well it will help release hormones that cause contractions, and in turn the contractions will be working on dilating and effacing.

Be thankful that your body is working in staged and giving you time to rest in between. It's that much less your body will have to do when labor does actually start!

dillation is when the cervix opens up to make room for the outgoing baby.
Effacing is when the lower tissue of the uterus softens up and thins out leading way to labor. Which means you can be up to 6cmm dilated and hang out doing normal things but not be effaced. Onve the efacing starts going you may need to be in a hospital because of risk of infections to you and or the baby.
Just remember its coming soon...good luck!

I have heard you can take a wash rag in the shower and stimulate your nipples. It helps to release hormones and also toughens up the nipples to nurse.
And of course time. Your body knows what it is doing.

Good luck and congrats

Your wellbeing practitioner beneficial is beneficial. i replace into 3cm and a hundred% effaced at 38 weeks and nonetheless went over due by very almost 2 weeks. It replace into actual somewhat irresponsible of her to be making those variety of predictions, because of the fact it gets human beings's hopes up and many times leaves many females human beings very annoyed, disenchanted, and dissatisfied while it does not ensue as estimated. and additionally why might she schedule you for an induction at 39 weeks? Is there some scientific indication for doing so? you're mind-blowing that as long as your water has not broken you have got intercourse. you additionally can attempt purely slightly nipple stimulation. strolling and squatting might additionally help, yet do not tire your self out. yet particularly - you won't be in a position to tension it, not even "help it" if your physique isn't waiting. sturdy success, you're very almost there.

full dilatation of the cervix is 10cm. if u've reached up to 10cm, it's impossible for you to get the cervix effaced. cervix ripening only can be done under induction. usually the doctor will put sumthin called prostaglandin E2 in the vagina and this can be tried up to 3 times. if induction of labour fails then you'll be sent to operating theater for caesarean section in the case that require immediate delivery.

It takes time. Please be thankful that your body is taking its time. If you cram a weeks worth of labor into a couple of days it can be really rough. Hot moist towels seem to help as well as anything. That allows the area to relax, so the door can open. Gradually is best.
