I don't see what relevance the background of the people who published or reported the news about the petition has.

The fact is that the petition exists and at least 1,000 armed forces personnel signed it. I am wondering about opinions on the people who signed the petition.

An Appeal for Redress from the War in Iraq
Many active duty, reserve, and guard service members are concerned about the war in Iraq and support the withdrawal of U.S. troops. The Appeal for Redress provides a way in which individual service members can appeal to their Congressional Representative and US Senators to urge an end to the U.S. military occupation. The Appeal messages will be delivered to members of Congress at the time of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January 2007.

The wording of the Appeal for Redress is short and simple. It is patriotic and respectful in tone.

As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq . Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home.

I'd guess that if 1,000 signed it, there are probably a lot more who agree, but for one reason or another did't want to put their names on it.

Being a soldier who has done two tours in Iraq im not suprised at all. There is a large growing decent in the military that is not actually against the war, but more against our leadership that has gotten us into this war. The failure of the Bush administration-including Rumsfeld in leadership is what has led to America being bogged down in Iraq.
You wont hear about those petitions in the mainstream media. Even CNN wont cover that.

From the description of the stories, it sounds like maybe CNN and other mainstream media didn't carry it because the whole thing sounds a bit shady.
1. Yahoo said that a few hundred people signed it - the Nation aid "...nearly 1,000..."
2. The "sources" listed in the Nation's article are nearly all cited with pseudonyms.
3. The author of the Nation article is an avowed anti-war demonstrator whose actions during the Vietnam war got him expelled. He later worked for Salvador Allende in Chile. Allende himself was a Marxist and founder of Chile's Socialist party.

In my opinion, this story shouldn't be given anymore weight than anything that an Ann Coulter article would...

So, what's new? I am very surprised that they did not immediately resigned after it was made that they were being sacrificed for an unnecessary war, all based on lies upon lies (that US president George Bush would consider hilarious enough to make fun of: "... no WMD here; no WMD under the table; etc"

Imposters ruling and making decisions for humans! What a tragedy for humanity!

Wake up. They signed up for active duty. They new we are/were in war times. They're being payed and getting an education to protect this country and help rebuild iraq. Our military should not and can not dictate our international policies.
