My in-laws recently went on a vacation. They left their hound with close friends whose animals they had cared for the previous week. He is a very playful, non-aggressive dog who is usually great with other animals. This particular couple has taken the dog on numerous occassions in the past, and in fact adored him very much!

They noticed he showed an interest in their caged in-door rabbit. Not thinking much of it, they left the two animals together alone for over 7 hours one day. When they returned home, the cage was destroyed and the rabbit was dead. There was no blood, or puncture wounds...it appears as if the dog simply made a play toy out of this bunny.

They are now asking my in-laws to pay for the damages, including the cage which they say was over $1,000, and the rabbit who was from a special breeder!

What would you do if you were the dogs owner???

If I were the owner of the dog, I would pay for the damages and the loss of the rabbit - to get another rabbit. The dog doesn't know what's wrong or right, but I, as the owner should take responsibility of what my dog does - and also take responsibility for leaving the dog (without thinking about the consequences). That would be the right thing to do.

However, the in-laws in question may have a different attitude, so there's nothing much you can do.

And after I seize them starting up at my tail they turn round and act like i'm the obsessed one. I accept as true with you. in basic terms tell them to ask you out like regularly occurring human beings. i respect my dad too.

That's BS!!! It is a nature of a dog to want to either play with or chase or just be curious--------I would not ever pay for it-----I am sure the people KNEW or should have known that dogs are curios animals and most of them mean no harm.. They want another rabit, they can buy themselves another rabbit.

You should never leave animals alone, together, unsupervised.
