I made $7500 last year, and my husband who is a full time student only made $500 or less substituting...Do we even need to wait for his w2, or can we go ahead and file with just mine? I was told if you make under a certain amount, you do not have to file, and since his was only $500, can we file without his????

Both of you earned less than the minimum requirements to file.

- single under age 65: $8,450
- married filing jointly (both spouses under age 65): $16,900
- married filing separately (any age): $3,300

You would only need to file if you had any income taxes withheld or are eligible for the earned income credit or other tax credits, like the telephone tax refund.

If you are filing a joint return, you need both. If you are each filing separately, he will not need to file, but if he had any taxes deducted he would not get a refund without filing. Wait it out and do both.

If you are filing jointly, you will need to include his information.

If you are filing separately, of course you can go ahead and file yours.

If he made less than $500.00 you don't have to wait for his but if he made $500.00 or more you have to file with his W-2
