Where I went they recommended that we all wear white (I had my husband and son in some of them) so we all wore nice white collared shirts and dark jeans. My shirt was a full button up maternity shirt which we unbuttoned to show the belly. Everyone always tells us how beautiful they are. My favorite part about them is that they are elegant and tasteful, showing off my belly but not in a way that makes people uncomfortable to look at them. We still have some of them hanging in our living room.
Oh BTW we had them taken one month before we had the baby.

That depends on the look you are going for...I am a portrait photographer and if you were my client, I would suggest 2 different outfit changes. Actually 3. First I would try to talk you into some nude portraits. of course, nothing raunchy. you would be posed in such a way that it would be beautiful and sensual instead of playboyish. Then i would suggest white button down shirts, cuffed at the sleeves with nice jeans. barefoot of course. The next would be something black. Jeans and a black turtleneck or v-neck sweater. Stay away from short sleeve and spag straps as they will make you look bigger than you are! i don't have any maternity portraits up yet, but if you would like to look at my website for clothing ideas, knock yourself out. Congrats and goodluck!!! I am also expecting and these are the ways i will have my maternity portraits shot. www.holtportraitdesign.com

Go whole range, trendy maternity wear fo r general show, family & friends then do the Demi nudes & skimpy stuff (as long as u feel comfortable with it) for u & ur special partner.
Pregnancy can be beautiful & sexy.

A lot of pictures I've seen have just an open robe or nothing at all, with the woman covering herself with her arms.

Wear something nice but don't try to hide the fact that you are pregnant. Your child will love seeing pictures of mommy when you were carrying it.

i had this problem. Wear LIGHT colored clothes. anything dark makes it almost impossible to tell you are pregnant. i had to go back a couple of times when we wanted to get our matenity pictures taken because the shirt i wore was too dark.

You should wear fitted clothing, not baggy. Baggy clothes can make you look really heavy. Also, pose from the side, this will make you look pregnant, not just wide. Oh, and black is slimming.
