in politics, what does it mean to be left wing or right wing?

Right wing = Law abiding, moral, and upstanding, conservatives.

The physical seating of Congress,..Dems on the left, Reps on the right, I've always wished they were seated,and mapped, as to their values,and beliefs,so that in a glance,the public could determine their amount of extremism, the more extreme in their standing,the farther from the center aisle they would sit, I think many people would soon see that the preference to be near the middle,would thus be politically best,but then some of the dems and reps would almost be on one anothers lap (the power comes from the center)

There can be many definitions. In the ordinary sense if you are with the group supporting capitalist agenda you are a rightist[right wing]. On the contrary if you are with the group supporting social justice agenda you are a moderate or a leftist[left wing]
