I assume this is owing to a clogged drain which we will check, and/or the seal of the door. More disturbing is another INKY BLACK LEAK coming from under the fridge onto the floor. Is this Freon? We are not happy - and the fridge is only about 5 years old. .

Under your frige is a catch pan underneath. The black junk you're seeing is sludge from the pan. You need to clean it and yes, check the drain hose if it has one. Part of what your fridge does id collect the moisture from the air. Did you start using a humidifier recently? The door gasket is also in question. Usually just cleaning it real good will solve the problem. If not you're getting into the "just go get a new one" range.

Many refridgerators leak liquid whether or not there is a freezer due to condensation. Usually there is a trap pan under the refridgerator that should be cleaned on a regular basis. The black leak sounds like a compressor problem. If you are renting, notify the landlord, and ask for a replacement. If you replace the machine, keep your receipt, and negotiate settlement in lieu of rent. If you own your home, a replacement will probably be just as economical as paying for a repair person to diagnose and repair.

Good luck!

It's not freon. If the fridge still cools, it's not freon. Freon is a gas.
It's likely either oil from the compressor or dirty leaking water. Is this like a small dorm fridge with a tiny freezer or truly no freezer?

Dirty coils, and dirty pan. Freon leaks usually mean no cooling. Your drain pan needs cleaning.
