English lyric: On a hill in the night
We lie in wait in the dark
In the mud and the blood I lie cold,
Pack and rain clinging to me
And my home and my farm burned to the ground so they can catch us
But those flames and that fire now burn deep, deep within me
De La Rey, De La Rey, will you come to lead the Boers?
De La Rey, De La Rey
General, general as one man we shall fall about you
General De La Rey.
Against the Kakies* who laugh
A handful of us against a whole great army
And the crags at our backs,
They think it's all over.
But the heart of a Boer lies deeper and wider, they shall see it yet
On a horse he is coming, the Lion of the West Transvaal.
Because my wife and my child lie wasting away in a camp*
and the Kakies' marrow runs over a nation which shall rise again.
*The Boere called the English soldiers Kakies, as in khaki, due to their uniforms. Another term is "Rooinek", literally "redneck", because the English burned so easily in the sun.
*British concentration camp
PS. I love this song!

No racial connotations...Hell, Afrikaners has to be so careful to have any cultural pride these days. For the sake of peace in modern South Africa people should be careful to distinguish between true racism (which can go either way) and cultural pride. The British did some horrible things to the young Afrikaner nation, but we put it behind us and carried on. Afrikaners did some horrible things to our fellow South Africans. Now, it's time to carry on...
The lyrics, the artist and the video are well executed from an artistic point of view. We should appreciete good art when it comes round, coz there's a lot of "lesser" art out there.
Well done Bok!
"De La Rey" has just been awarded double platinum status according to it's sales!

Depends which side you a looking at it from. Guess it may not have any racial connotations for some, but you have to understand that people don't see things the same way.
Then again, he didn't have the country buzzing either as he was only popular to the afrikaans speaking community.

I accept as true with styviesblu. the government are making life harder to scare the whites away! specific the greater whites that bypass away the greater it is going to finally end up purely like Zimbabwe!! there is not any doubt on the subject of the reality that Africa has been lowering over the years. yet i actually think of that faster or later issues will start to alter, seem at Mozambique, seem how over the say previous 10 years it fairly is replaced somewhat, besides the undeniable fact that, there remains assorted artwork to be executed, assorted business enterprise adult males black and white are shifting there from Zimbabwe, bringing interior the money for the financial device, and now it fairly is figuring out on up. I do have self belief that South Africa could be prevented from growing to be the "next Zimbabwe" yet for that to take place, each South African, black, white, poor or wealthy has to OPEN their eyes!! It makes my blood boil to verify what has happened to Zimbabwe! I even have assorted hate-rid for Zimbabwe's government and ought to declare assorted issues approximately them, yet i ought to calm myself! I purely pray for the sake for Africa that all of us awaken!! in the previous that's purely too late for not purely Africa yet for this worldwide! I nonetheless have wish, little or no yet in no way the fewer it remains there. i purely won't be able to have self belief certainly one of those appropriate mom land, might have lots destruction and violence in it fairly is government! it fairly is relatively fabulous!!

I think that it is the government of South Africa who is trying to kill the Afrikaans culture that is why any thing that may portray the history and culture of the white South African is called to be racial.
The White South African is just like any other culture they want to Cherise their own cultural history which is most of time seen as racism.

Racial lyrics??? This is telling my one thing, they are scared. If a nation is moved by a song like this, this means that there is still a lot of fire burning in their harts! They must keep pushing us........
