When you realized that you were no longer in love with your wife and decided to get out of the marriage, what approach did you use? Did you seek legal advise, simply move out, or do something else to effect your freedom? If there were children involved, how did you deal with this issue? Did you seek joint custody, full custody, or something else? Please, only serious answers.

I think I decided I no longer wanted to live with my life when she started to not believe in me. Running for public office with no support from her, other little things that just hurt me.

If you could make the break without lawyers good for you. I gave up everything to start over and the lawyer was about 4 K (1994 dollars). The point came when we were in counseling and again she failed to even try to see my point of view and that was it. I left the session, her and that was one of the best things I did.
I have a daughter from that marriage that is my life and at the time she was 1. 15 now I see her every week and try to stay as involved in her life as possible.

best of luck you will face about 3 hard years after the divorce and maybe more depending on how well you can get along with your ex.

Yes it is way to long to type in this format. But it depends on whether or not you can work together as a team to dissolve the marriage. The best thing to do is to do mediation to work out a reasonable agreement that will save you $$ that you would have to pay a lawyer. If you are dealing with a vindictive spouse then it will cost you a lot dealing with a broken legal system. My divorce in legal fees alone is over 27K and still going on its third year! I have one child and I was seeking joint physical/legal custody
