I am dying the slow agonizing death of a Unix Administrator; brain cells rotting from boredom, heart clogging through the onset of obesity.

Should I become a Firefighter instead?

if your obese you will not be able to be a firefighter, but let me tell you if you ever get out of high tech and want to go back in , very very hard to do.

I think there is a certain amount of boredom involved in being a firefighter too, long periods of nothing going on, interspersed with short periods of excitement, adrenaline and sheer terror! But it's a very honorable profession, and I think it would keep you physically fit, because they have to stay in shape. It would be a big switch for you, but I say if that's what you want to do, then go for it, and good luck!

If a Firefighter is in your heart, then go for it! You only get one life to live, why waste it at a job that you hate??
