The four members of System are all of Armenian ethnicity. Due to the diaspora caused by the genocide in 1915, only Shavo (the Bassist) was born in Armenia. Serj and John (vocals and drums) we both born in Lebanon, and Daron was born in Los Angeles. All of them, except for Daron, immigrated to LA as youths, and grew up there. They all still have strong ties to their heritage, and have visited Armenia several times.
They describe themselves not as an Armenian Rock Band, but as a rock band that happens to be made of Armenians.
