Based on a sampling of responses on this board I am thinking a surprising number would be OK with this.

It would have to one Hell of a big emergency for me to accept it. We're talking major nuclear, bio, chemical attack on a dozen major American cities, a big asteroid headed for earth, alien invasion, massive multiple catastrophes. Basically, suspending the constitution can only be justified when the US is in mortal peril or it has been catastrophically damaged to a point that average people cannot function or provide for themselves.

That depends on your definition of a "surprising" number. I'd say a small percentage of voters would approve, say 5-10%. However, if you're talking numbers, that might mean 20 million or so in a nation with our population. It is a big number, yes, but it is also a small minority.

That would depend how much fearmongering went on right before. If you asked this question a week after 9/11/01, a lot of people would have answered yes.
