Farewell is a word,
So simple, so dour
Saying what started
but did not endure.
Farewell is a feeling
of something that’s gone
Farewell is a memory
that stays for too long
Farewell is everything
that’s been left unsaid
Farewell is the greeting
of someone
who’s dead.

I agree with the previous answers, amazing poem, Reg! and it's true... what I find wonderful about this place is the fact that it brings us together regardless of our views, of our location, of our social status, of our age! I've met in here people from all over the world, people that I would certainly have never met otherwise, shared opinions with them, shared their every day life as if they are my real friends or my neighbors! That is why, no matter how much time I sometimes feel I've wasted in here, I will never regret clicking by accident a certain link on the main page of Yahoo! It has been a part of my life for the last almost three years and I'm grateful for it and for my friends!

Teachers
" Teachers are full of patience
Teachers never give up,
And won't let you give up either.
Teachers take students seriously.
Teachers care in their sleep
Teachers see the genius
In every drawing, poem and essay.
Teachers make you feel important.
Teachers also help others.
Teachers never grow old.
Teachers stay famous in their student minds,
Forever."

Why God Made Teachers
By Kevin William Huff
When God created teachers,
He gave us special friends
To help us understand His world
And truly comprehend
The beauty and the wonder
Of everything we see,
And become a better person
With each discovery.
When God created teachers,
He gave us special guides
To show us ways in which to grow
So we can all decide
How to live and how to do
What's right instead of wrong,
To lead us so that we can lead
And learn how to be strong.
Why God created teachers,
In His wisdom and His grace,
Was to help us learn to make our world
A better, wiser place.

Now That You’re Retiring
Now that you’re retiring
We can tell you how we feel;
Our heartfelt admiration
Is deeply felt and real.
You’ve been a great role model
For teachers and each "kid";
You showed us how to be
In everything you did.
We’ll miss your fine example;
We’ll miss the things you gave;
Our pleasant memories of you
We’ll recall and carefully save.
We wish for your retirement
The best of all your days;
May you discover sweet fulfillment
In new and rewarding ways.

Asking some of the students and staff to put their ideas into a poem is a great way to send them into retirement. It is personal and it can mean more to the person retiring than any published poem. We did it at our school and they loved it.

Thank you for your gifts,
whether wrapped, spoken or written
and for making our day a true celebration
of our heritage, faith and love.
You can also compose your own from here:
