I am pregnant with my first child and at 31 weeks now. Well since my first visit with the OB when i got weighed I was 142 pounds. Then during my 5th month I was uptil 152 pounds. In month 6, I was 155 pounds. And at my last visit 2 weeks ago I was 157lbs. Normally when i weigh myself at home on the scale in the mornings, that whole week it was showing 156, then when I would weigh in the evenings, it would be upto 158. that was showing the whole week. Today I had my appt at the Dr's two weeks later and at her office I was weighing 161. I got so surprised as to how I can gain that much in only 2 weeks? I got on the scale at home this morning and it showed 158.6 so let's say that is almost 159. That was before I ate anything this morning. Last night after dinner, the scale showed 161. This morning at the Dr's office my weight was showing 161..after I drank 2 glasses of water and had my whole grain toast for breakfast, it was showing that much. Why did it increase for me from

this morning when it showed about 159 to 161 at the Dr's office after breakfast? Is that because of what I ate? And do I need to be concerned, because I am working out 5 days a week. I walked this morning on the treadmill before having a shower and taking breakfast, so how did I gain 4 pounds in just 2 weeks?

You are worrying about it WAY too much. You are still in the normal healthy range of weight gain for pregnancy. I found that my weight gain was really inconsistent. You'd think you'd just put on a pound a week or something like that, but I would go weeks without gaining weight and then the next visit I'd have put on 6 pounds. Completely inconsistent. One month I gained almost 10 pounds. But overall, I was on track and within a healthy weight gain, so it was nothing to worry about.
You're fine! Enjoy this time to not worry about your weight! : )

Yes it can. Were you a smoker and then quit for the baby's health? Don't worry, you are supposed to gain weight when you are pregnant. I had a great pregnancy, I was a smoker, when I found out I was pregnant, I quit! Well, instead of smoking I ate, and I was pregnant on top of that, get this, I gained 80 1/2 pounds. And I am only 5'3", my husband loved walking behind me to watch me 'wobble'. I did have a 9 pound 3 ounce baby girl though. But remember, I quit smoking. All my friends gained maybe 30 pounds. Also remember, I was always told, the baby does it's weight gain during the last month or so of pregnancy.

I really would not worry about it. During this part of your pregnancy we tend to gain a lot within a month's time. And normally you will weigh more in the evening than at morning. I'm 31 weeks and have only gained 7 pounds but I expect that to pick up in the next few weeks. Good luck and just enjoy your pregnancy and stop worrying about numbers. What matters most is that you and your baby are healthy.

Oh yeah...you do gain a lot FAST during those last few months. I gained 30 pounds during my pregnancy! Think of it this way...Your baby adds about 7 or 8 pounds, maybe more or less, your breasts add an average of two pounds, placenta another 1-2, uterus another 2, amniotic fluid yet 2 more! You have extra blood (about 4 lbs), fluid in your body tissue (4 lbs), and to top it off your body collects fat stores to aid in breast feeding (an average of 7lbs)! So that alone equals 29-31lbs in just the necessities! Don't fret, when you deliver it will be like instant weight loss. You will be amazed (but expect to still look about 5 months pregnant) at your "flat" belly. Over the next few days your body will bleed, pee and sweat all that extra fluid out (it sounds gross, but will feel really good - believe me! If you breastfeed you will find that the weight is loss even faster! If nothing else, know that your baby needs for you to gain this weight to help him grow into a healthy little guy (or girl)! You're making a sacrifice, yes, but it's totally worth it! Good Luck!!

Its not just what u eat or your exercising, your baby is growing, the blood supply is getting larger, your placenta is gaining weight also. All of these things are necessary for your baby..your weight gain is mostly baby so i wouldnt worry too much. Try not to exercise too hard and too often and make sure u keep the weight gain up to carry your healthy baby to term. The reason for the difference in weight gain from home and doctors office is you either probably had gas, bloating, the food u ate beforehand or the amount of clothing u had on. Dont worry most women gain about 25-35 lbs during the full 9 months..

the normal amount of weight for a woman to gain is 35 lbs. so far i have you added as only 19 lbs. i say you're doing a good job maintaining your weight. Yes usually eating can throw off a scale also you have to keep in mind to take 2 lbs off due to the weight of your clothes. And if your doctor is getting pissy about how much weight you've gained...ignore it. Usually towards the end of your term you'll gain more and more weight..mainly it's due to the baby doing nothing now but growing...he/she is mostly developed and now all they have to do is play and grow. Honestly, don't worry yourself over your weight (i went with my 4th pregnancy from 110 to 178...he was a BIG boy 9 lbs 22 and 1/2 inches long) nother thing you have to consider is the placenta...it's going to be about the same weight as the baby
GL to you :) and Congratulations!! :)

sounds normal to me and perfectly healthy i wouldnt be so weight obsessed it is a given that you are going to continue to gain weight esp in the end where you are gaining a pound a week. If it makes you feel better i have been gaing a steady 7 pounds a month! Now that is a lot to me but my dr is not worried about it because i am healthy...normal blood pressure, etc.

Are you being weighed at the same time of day? That can have a big effect. You've gained about 20 pounds. In my honest (non-professional) opinion, it's not that bad. I gained 40 pounds with both of mine.

Because the baby is growing! Just because you work out and keep care of your self dozen;t mean you are not going to gain as much weight it could be water weight as well! I would not be concerned over 4 LBS relax you are fine and it IS possible!!!

With my first daughter I gained 61 pounds and gained 14 of those pounds in two weeks. There are several reasons why this could happen...water retention, swelling ect. It happens it is one of the wonderful joys of being pregnant.
