you get what you pay for when you get free programs like that. with that being said go to google and search avg. the first result should be freeavg.grisoft.com or something similar and they have been voted before the best "FREE" antivirus program and they also have a spyware program that is also free.
and to have a better chance of getting rid off everything try and scan your computed in safe mode.

Here's some ideas to "roll ya own" Internet Security Suite for free. Free is always the best.
1. For your Anti-Virus......(Always use only 1 A-V)
I like the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
Full test results are here:
http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82
AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.
Updates many times per day to detect new malware.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:
http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?
2. For your Firewall..........(Always use only 1 firewall)
An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall "leak tests" that even most of the "paid-for" firewalls cannot pass.
And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
3. For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs...............(use 2)
Pick and choose, 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.
Spybot Search and Destroy:

Ewido:

Adaware SE:

A-Squared:

SUPERAntiSpyware:

Windows Defender:

Unfortunately, many "paid for" anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
4. And to protect your computer from ever getting infected with spyware in the first place............ (use them both)
SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SiteAdvisor:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/
Everything here is 100% free!!!!!!
Great luck!

Well I use three different spyware programs. There all free. Adware, Search & Destroy, ewido. you can download and update them all for free. If your infected right now, running and cleaning sometime won't remove them all by its self. You need to make sure you run these programs in safe mode. Run FULL scans. But before you do clear temp folders first. I use a program, which is free, call cleanUP. Its nice read warnings first. You need to get a virus protection software also. to prevent this type of thing from happening again. e-mail me if you need more help hobbit_lovin2000@yahoo.com

I worked on removing malware from last 15 years. The best thing to kill viruses is not from windows, but by DOS, if you can or check for the alternatives like
1. ONLINE SCAN YOUR COMPUTER
2. CHECK UNKNOWN PROCESS FROM TASK MANAGER and scan them online.
Don't overload your computer with many antivirus and spywares, In my knowledge, yahoo automatically scan mails for VIRUS(if not spam).
In case of effectiveness McAffee, F-Prot,AVG(Sometimes) are good choices,

AOL Safety Center is an all-in-one, completely free-to-use security suite that provides effective protection from everything that you have mentioned, and has also an included firewall. All you need is a free AOL account (much like Yahoo or Gmail) in order to use it.
http://daol.aol.com/safetycenter/
Caution: It will not work unless you uninstall the anti-virus and firewall that you are using at present.

For all practical purposes there *are* no good free programs of this kind. The ones that exist are either ineffective or are themselves a form of spyware, or made by the same people who make spyware. Save time and energy and shell out the money for Spyware DOctor. When I had a spyware program highjack my homepage, I spent the whole night testing out these free programs, and none of them worked. When I got Spyware Doctor, it not only solved my problem, it eliminated over 27,000 spyware programs I didn't even know I had.
And no, I'm not being paid by them to say this. Also, the most worthless program of them all is Windows Defender. As my boyfriend says, when it confronts any kind of spyware or malware its first response is to break down and cry like a little girl.
