the self tapper connection is probably blocked, turn of the water at the main stop tap and unscrew the self tapper connection from the copper pipe, you will see that there is limescale and other debris (in the hole that the self tapper made into the copper pipe)clean it out and also clean the self tapper by opening the valve and putting some thing through the hole i have done this many times in the past.

Could be a bad water valve. Even new appliances have defective parts sometimes. It sounds like your hot water flow is normal, so this can be easily tested by switching the hoses, so hot to cold and cold to hot.
If you do this and it is the valve then you'll get plenty of cold water when you want hot and not much hot when you set it for cold. If there is a problem with your supply you will get the same result, but you can test this by not hooking the hose to the machine. Just run it into a bucket, as someone else mentioned.

It's the self tapper alright. The opening just doesn't allow the flow that oyu need to do the job. I'd suggest installing a 1/2 inch bibcock.

Disconnect the cold water hose, and get a bucket. Turn on the tap and see if the water flow is normal, if it is try swapping the hoses and see if the problem moves with the hose. If not, check and see if the cold water connection on the washer has some sort of obstuction like a shipping cap.

does your cold water run slow when you turn your tap on? if so it may be your main water pressure or the washer needs to be loosened at the tap, ask neighbours about their pressure to find out if area water pressure is poor. it may also be if you are running two things at one that req water etc dishwasher, washing machine, shower. check that the pipe that runs from the washing machine to the cold/hot water tap is not at an inclining angle. was your previos machine like this?, if not may poss be a fault in machine. good luck

Turn your water pressure back down or you will burst the pipes on your w/machine, the water is coming in slowly so that it can be heated.

Need 1/2" minimum feed line. 3/4" line is preferable. A self tapper won't usually do it.

Read the manual of the new washing machine of yours and locate the troubleshooting to resolve your problem.
But my best guess is, to clean the cold water pipeline in your washing machine.
If all will fail, ask for some expert to do it for you.

It is the self tapper I would say. You would be better off having it done properly by a plumber.
