American Idol is one of my favorite television shows. I hate to admit it, but it's just funny to see the people who sound really horrible, but have somehow convinced themselves that they have great voices. (Delusional?) Mixed in with the horrible singers, in walk people with dynamite voices.
I just find it really interesting to see all the thousands and thousands of people at the beginning, most of whom have barely so-so voices, then watch the quality singers begin to blossom as the season goes on. Out of all that madness, chaos and craziness, you get a Carrie Underwood, or a Jennifer Hudson.
I think American Idol really brings the point home that sometimes you just have to face the competition and go for it. Especially for all of the performers to come out of Idol who have ended up with significant careers, (Underwood, Hudson, Aiken, etc.), what if they had arrived on audition day and said to themselves, "...look at all these people here!!! I might as well go home - I don't stand a chance!" Not only would they have missed out on experiencing great success, we would have never been blessed with their talent.
I love Simon. I used to think he was mean, but he's just very much to the point and doesn't mince words. When he told that one guy last night (with the bulgy eyes) he looked like one of those creatures that live in the jungle (I think they're called bushbabies), I thought I would die laughing!

I think this year's american Idol is just so damn cruel! I think that when they are using those people that they know cant sing just for "entertainment purposes" they are bing really mean and that's unnecessary...They know the people will do anything they ask them to do, because they want the dream so bad, so they take advantage of that....I have no problem in them telling the people that they're singing sucks, but don't tell people about their looks, they cant help that! and it's totally unnecessary! I kinda like paula tho...if she was buzzed up that night, so what, I probably would have been drinking if I were there too! lol. The thing about the first night tho, is that I had totally loved jewel before this show...I was a big fan, but now...I kinda felt ot her personality because of the show, and she proved to me that she is full of SH*T and doesnt have a mind of her own! totally inconsiderate to her #1 fan (the blonde girl) All this coming from someone who once had nothing and lived in a car surprises me...you's thing she's be more appreciative of her fans and humble! peace out guys!

I do agree with everyone's comment it was more or less a waste of time for everyone watching it, and i liked the way Randy sounded last nite, seems Simon has given him some of his nasty truth to the edge sword remarks; i think people need to start looking at thierselves as well audition within a group of truthful friends/family that can tell them if they can sing or not before lining up in the rain, snow and chilly weather to give the whole nation an amusement time.
By the way, i did not really see the use of those 2 LADIES last night especially JEWEL and can someone pls. tell Paula she needs to make up her mind when she asked a question instead of passing everytime, that does not spk well of her :(

I am not a HUGE Idol fan, but I usually watch the Auditions the first couple weeks of each season. From what I can tell this is not going to be a good series of auditions! Too many commercials, too many bad singers shown (it gets old after awhile), and Paula and Randy seemed really different last night. Oh, and I agree with someone else who said: What was Jewel's purpose? --She didn't contribute anything!

I think they should be honest with the people about their singing abilitys and tell them what they need to hear. But the way they all made mean remarks and laughed at the one guy... (the guy in the red shirt that Simon said looked like a monky) they need to stop that. There's no reason to be jerks. You can be honest and tell them they're no good at singing, and they're style is weird... ect, and not be rude. But to say things like that and laugh at someone's looks is just flat out wrong. I don't think I'll watch it again, just because of that.

I totally agree. Tonight is Seattle's turn, I was born here and still live here..... On Oprah today, Simon said Seattle wins a gold star for horrible singers (I would be one of those) Thats pretty depressing..... I mean, I'm pretty awful but..............
Anyways...... Back to last night, Horrible, specifically the girl who was into the Wizard of Oz (just because you can make a cool lion noise, YOU CANT SING!) But, the 16 year old who sang Jennifer Holiday was brilliant (as Simon puts it) she sounded a lot like Jennifer Holiday in Dream girls.....................

Omg I felt sooo sorry for those 2 kids that cried. Like that guy in the red shirt. He was all, "I know singing is what i am supposed to do. I am going to be on tv someday." Randy has gotten the Simon disease or something. He didn't have to be that mean! And that other guy who was in his own band who had the scratchy voice. They said they would give him another chance if he found an Abba song to sing. They were just using him for pure amusement!!

It was garbage. Sure a lot of these people were not good looking and had no talent. And the screeners knew that. Tonight on one of the cable news shows it was pointed out that no one got on the show without having been passed by three panels of judges. If these people are deluded, why not just politely dismiss them immediately instead of making them think they might actually have something the national judges want to hear? Answer: because America loves to watch bullies beat up and humiliate people. All I can figure is we are tired of getting the crap kicked out of us by "nobodies" in Iraq, so we're getting some sort of weird national revenge by supporting this crap. I wouldn't let my kids watch that show. That is not how you treat people, especially if they aren't trying to hurt anyone.
This cracks me up. Listen to all the people who were upset because the Patriots "disrespected" the Chargers at the end of the game last weekend. How does that compare to this?
