As far as films are concerned, Kurosawa's RAN is "King Lear" set in medieval Japan. The late great Richard Harris portrays Lear in modern Liverpool in the film MY KINGDOM (2001). SCOTLAND, PA (2001) sets "Macbeth" in modern rural Pennsylvania.
