After all, some say it's genetic.
Any thoughts?

PS How does it affect YOU if they get charged the same as you for a seat . . . OR a meal?

PPS Do you see any parallels between this argument and the one over same-sex marriage? Who pays for added Social Security and other benefits?
I'm not giving my positions - but I'm throwing it out there.

I think it should be. I have family that this is a concern for. They won't fly because of it. We wouldn't start charging people in wheelchairs extra fee's for the ramps that are built just for them. It's already pain full enough to be obese and have to ask for that seat-belt extender. People should try seeing it through their eye's.

I suppose the only way it affects other people is that other people resent paying twice for two seats if someone else pays once... and gets two seats. But then, we resent a lot of things in life. Most of them boil down to the feeling that one person is getting something free that we must pay for. It is even worse when the person getting the preferential treatment is seen as somehow less deserving than the POV person. Just an example -
A and B both use syringes on a daily basis.
A gets his free. B has to pay for his.
A is addicted to illegal drugs. B has Type 1 diabetes. Does B, who has absolutely no say and is in no way to blame for his condition, have the right to resent the fact that A, who chose to take illegal drugs and got addicted, gets free what B has to pay for?

If they are so fat that one airline meal does not suffice and they need two, should they only charge them for one because fat people need more food?
Well if the airlines wanted they could only give them one seat. It is out of respect that they give up two seats with one for free. It would effect whoever has to sit beside the person if that obese person only wanted to pay for one seat.
If I were skinny enough to fit a friend in the seat I payed for... Will I be able to take that person on with me?

No. Genetic or not, the reality is that the airline needs to sell all the seats it can in order to be profitable. I would say that if the flight is less than 75% full, then they should not be charged as there will be available seats.

I think that the airlines should have special seating available for people who would normally need two airline seats. These seats should be available at the same price for a single seat. It's a fact that people the world over are getting heavier and the airlines have to change with the times. Just my humble opinion.

No, it should not be illegal.Air travel and operation of commercial aircraft are based on the number of bodies that can be fit into an aircraft safely. The more bodies in the plane, the more tickets sold. Two seats are two seats no matter who is occupying them.

If you need two seats because of size you should pay for two seats. Is it fair? Well consider this. I fly a lot and sitting next to an obese person can be hell on a long flight. Even worse is with a late booking and you get to sit between two obese people. Then, you can barely breathe. So, if the person really needs two seats because of their size then they should have to have two seats and pay for them and not make life miserable for someone else.

If they require two seats they should be charged for both of them. Genetic or not. If they require two meals, then they should pay for the second meal. Just seems logical.

Airlines charge per SEAT...not per passenger.
I just so happen to have a big fat a** myself and if I flew anywhere I would expect to pay for two seats.
No, I don't think it's unfair.
And I'm a fatty!!
