it says on the back of the pedialyte bottle to use it within 48 hrs after opening... why is this? does it go bad after 48 hrs?

I don't think it is dangerous for them, but I think that the electrolytes don't last long, and babies need to have the electrolytes for brain development while they cannot have breastmilk or formula.

Yes the key ingiediant in pedialyte causes the formula to spoil an astonashing rate.

I always wondered about that too. I usually end up paying more money for the small bottles rather than the more economical big jug since I don't want to throw so much away after 48 hours!

Follow the directions, I wouldn't take chances with the baby.You can always call the Doctor or pharmacist for any questions regarding medicine. Pedialyte is a medicine.

of course, I don't know how it can get much worse! That stuff is a completely foul tasting drink. I don't know how babies put up with it.
