YES YES YES!
I highly recommend waterbirth.

My first was an unmedicated "land" birth with a doctor.

My second and third were waterbirths with a midwife. (One in a freestanding birth center and one at home.)

The warm water is SOOooooo relaxing. It takes away a lot of your discomfort. A lot of waterbirth mommmas refer to it as an "aquadural" because the pain relief is that good.

I tore with my "land birth" but had absolutely no damage with my waterbirths. The warm water helps you stretch.

All three of my babies were calm and alert from birth.

Personally, I would never give birth any other way unless there was a strong medical reason for it. If I could go back and do it all again, I'd have 3 home waterbirths.

I see above you got some get input on this, I am glad to see there were some women on here to help and maybe encourage you. This is an old alternative to Child Birth, but, actually not well known in America. Europe may have more actual experience in this area. It has it Pros and Cons. The main thing will be well experienced people during delivery. The women I have talked with enjoyed this as it easy to reposition when needed and can be relaxing, which helps with pain management. The only problem would be if complications arise and another means of Delivery is needed. Which, the experience of those attending should play an important role. In my opinion from what I have learned and was told it probably one of the best delivery methods for both Mother and Child when everything goes smooth. There are excellent Mid-Wives that are very experienced in this and they can work directly with your Doctor to provide you with a wonderful experience. Many Hospitals are being to have an means of providing this alternative. This the big problem is places with the Facilities. I wish I could really tell you more, there is much. But, read up on this and try to find locals that have done this and can refer you to a good Mid-Wife, Doctor and Hospital that know how this work. Hopefully everything go smooth and you may be able to do this in the comfort of your own home.

I did water birth for part of my labor. I went natural through the whole labor (then had an emergency c-section at the end). It was very relaxing, it feels great on your back and muscles. Research suggests that it is proven to lessen pain and help the pain of labor to be more managable. Plus its fun. The more labor positions the faster the time goes. Different postions also help move the delivery along. A good friend had her baby in the tub (ten lbs!) The reaction of the babies when they first come out is way different. They come out relaxed, usually, becasue the exit is similar to the womb. You can't have an epidural and do water birth though, so that is a decision you will have to make.

I had a water birth with my son (now 14 months old) it was an amazing experience, because the pain is alot like period pain, i was able to lay in the hot water to take the weight of my stomach off and concentrate on pushing, i didn't take any pain relief, you're not allowed to take any of the drugs while in the water, but you are allowed gas and air, which was nice! I lasted 10 and a half hours in there and im planning on doing it again for this one.
In my opinion it was better than when i was on the bed, i felt i had limited control on the bed, but in the water i was free to move around and turn over, which helps release the horomones thats needed for you to relax.
Hope you choose the water!!
Good Luck!
