First and foremost- try to learn basic Japanese.
Learn some katakana and hiragana to start with.
It will make your life easier here in Japan.
Communication is important.
(*When I first came here I wish I had studied Japanese. It would have been so much easier. Just my experience.)
Learn about Japanese customs and lifestyles before you get here. It helps too.
Keep in mind that all the things you have back home are most likely NOT available in Japan, so you have big changes to deal with here.
I live in Tokyo and it's 'modern' Japan. Easier for a foreigner to live in, I'd say.
Kyoto is gorgeous and very traditional, but I personally prefer living in Tokyo.
All in all though Japan is a great place to live, at least for me it is. (I've been here over 9 years now and love it.)
Just my opinions here, hope it helps!
BTW, be sure to learn about the correct visas for staying and living in Japan.

You just can't "move there". They have laws there to follow ! A tourist visa is only good for 90 days. To get a work visa you need to have a job waiting for you. Bear in mind you need a BA / BS degree just to teach English there. That's the job most Americans have. Most other jobs you would need to be able to speak, read and write as well as a Japanese person. And that will take a very long time to do. Tokyo is one of the most costly cities to live in. Sorry, but it's not as easy to do as many people think it is.

properly the place are you from? i've got on no account been there, might truly decide to circulate, yet have acquaintances there who practice English as a 2d Language. you would be welcomed with open hands, and you will meet human beings in any respect situations, in all walks of existence, who talk English and could be particularly involved in who you're and what you recognize. that's a extra open society (in many techniques...) and with a bit of luck you will like the foodstuff and the approach of existence, which fascinate me to no end. Puppets, robots, and digital fact females that examine the information, merchandising each and every thing, small places, honor, loyalty, everywhere, in each and every walk of existence. many times a speedier p.c.. of existence... notwithstanding if, not something against the eastern, yet there will be an fairly few places the place you is purely not welcome. that's going to likely be tricky to stumble throughout the time of one among those places, that's unlike you could desire to hassle. yet you will understand once you're actually not welcome. additionally, some eastern are not too prepared with regards to the actuality that the U.S. nonetheless unquestionably owns them, and the U.S. infantrymen have not continuously behaved properly.

Dont worry about anything. It may look mysteriuos, but beleive me its not. Dont stress over learning the language before you get here, you will learn it automatically from just being here, of course with a little studying. The people here are pretty peaceful, and you dont have to worry about fights although there are some that may test you in small ways, but other than that just chill.
