My friend had this set up for a few years. He's back together with her now. I think if either of them started seeing someone else the other would have been upset. It's not a good long term thing, in my opinion. Luckily for them neither had the self esteem to find someone else.

depends on the person. for some people it gives a false sense of security for the more dependant one of the relationship. it's great for the one that doesn't want to be tied down. my opinion is that friends with benefits is usually a one sided relationship that is destined to go nowhere. better to be honest with what broke you up in the first place and move on. if you care about each other you will know it, if not don't play games.
