Its never too late !!!!!!!!!!If you are really good , and you work hard and get your head in the game , then something different will happen.People will say "You went really far in tennis!"
Get down to work immediately , and who knows , you could be the next Sampras or Graf!

Too late to get good enough to go pro, see if you can be topranked in the NCAA Division 1 tennis program as a first step, otherwise go study and pick a profession that will give you a steady paycheck. Only the top 200 players in the WORLD make any money playing tennis, and the instruction industry is getting saturated....

I'm assuming your a female, and females generally turn pro at a younger age than males, for example Sharapova turned pro at 14, but if you are very good you can still turn pro at 17, but its not something you just decide to do 1 day and it happens, you need to concentrate for a long time and have a little luck along the way

Actually, in response to h.kumite: Agassi began playing tennis right after he learned to walk. At age 19, he'd already been a pro for 3 years.

do u mean, like a club pro, that gives instruction, right? if you are serious about competing as a pro.i regret to say that, yes, it is probably too late. i assure you that there are 12 year olds that have been taking lessons for 7 years that would embarrass a good player as yourself. i believe you should follow your dreams, but you need to be realistic as well.; it is very expensive to have a coach and to tour regional events. are you good enough to get a scholarship? are u on high school team? back in the day i played several players that had a state ranking...man..it was like a new game or something. try to make the school teams and even join a league, you can enjoy the game at that level as well.

Seen in the light of statistics, seventeen IS a bit "old" to start serious training to become a pro.
However, if you are really pretty skilled at tennis already, I would certainly try to contact a more well-known coach, by sending him/her a video (DVD) of your play, so he/she can judge if you're the "right material".
Believe me, if he/she thinks you have potential, they'll contact you for sure.
Good luck.

That is a bit too old to begin practicing, but you never know, you might be a natural. It always helps to have at least played other physical sports.

DO you know Agassi?
Began practising at 19...
He is an exception, yeah. For you, it only depends on how hard you believe you can be one too.
Good luck
