This might sound silly but me and my friend are not agreeing on this. Is mumbai really a south indian city or is it a north indian city? Please don't give me links for the maps or wikipedia. Thanks in advance.

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is an island off the western coast of India, the Capital of Maharashtra - it is neither in the north nor in the south.

I know you don't want links of maps - but it is important to clarify your geographical concepts and a map is the ideal way....you can refer the following link to see the exact location of Mumbai in India:

Next time learn to do ur homework on your own!!

And if it's about a bet - i think both of u are wrong lmao =))
Even then you need to learn to get information on your own - we could give wrong answers here or the wrong answer could get voted if you depend on other people's general knowledge....

Besides, if you've betted correct, the link could help you prove your point.

Actually, from what I discovered, Mumbai is located in Western India: but it appears on the map I viewed(Wikipedia) to be south-west, so for your disagreement, it would be south.

"Mumbai or Bombay, city in western India, capital of Mahârâshtra State and premier port of India, located on the Arabian Sea. "

"The city is framed to the east on the mainland by the towering Western Ghats mountain range. Immediately to the north of Bombay Island is Salsette Island. Mumbai, known as Bombay until its name was officially changed in 1995, is the leading financial center of India as well as a major national commercial, transportation, and manufacturing hub. It has one of the world’s largest harbors: a broad, sheltered bay between the city and the mainland."

"Mumbai is located south of the tropic of Cancer but north of the equator."

" Nearly 35 percent of Greater Mumbai’s population live in slums, some of which remain submerged in knee-deep water during the four-month period of monsoon rains."
