One of Hitler's ideas was to ban all public smoking, just like America is doing now. What other ideas can we get from the nazi's to limit our freedom in this country?

Colorado was a red state in the last Presidential election, although, just recently in the last election Colorado elected a Democratic Govenor Bill Ritter. Much of the nation elected Democrats to retatliate against Bush's Iraq policy.
Colorado's smoking ban was enacted last July 1st,2006 ,not 30 years ago like someone said.
So 2 of your answerers are completely off base and do not know what they are talking about.
Hitler also did not like anyone speaking against him or his policies, which Bush has allowed wiretapping and opening of mails of targeted individuals which I think is wrong...so there is one example of Hitler and Bush if that is what you are looking for.
I am sure if you worded your question of,"How are Bush and Hitler similar"..someone would have reported you, probably some Republican.
Very clever way of wording your question, kudos to you.
Probably the next step that would come out of this similarity contest would be for the US to initiate the draft of all men over the age of 18.
That would not fly because even though Republicans want more young men to fight, they do not want their own sons to fight.
I heard that comment on a Sunday morning talk show about the draft.
Restrictions of public speech ,Religion, arts and the humanities were prevalent during Hitler's regime, which is slowly starting to resemble our country, from the low quality of shows.
During Bush's 1st month of presidency they cancelled that comedy show of the "Bush's" ,I dont' know if any one remembers it but it was pretty funny. I think it was on Fox.
So there is another example of the executive arm reaching into the world of what we can view and what we cannot view.
Fox said something about it being in poor taste that is why it was cancelled. I still think the show was hilarious.
It was kind of like the old Saturday Night Live skits, where even Richard Nixon appeared on that show, along with Gerald Ford with Chevy Chase.
At least the old Republican guard in this country had a sense of humor, but somehow that is now lost.
Hitler blamed the Jews for his country's demise and shifting of the staus quo of where all the money for the country went. His experiences of the rich Jewish families throwing outlandish parties while his German counterparts were fighting in WWi,and struggling economically were a major cause for his hatred.
I am not defending him,I am just giving a reason for his actions from his own words in his book "Mein Kampf",where he described how it was in WWi,while he served in the German Army as a young man.

A smoking ban has nothing to do with Hitler, and is something that is achieved by referendum - not a dictator. People decide that they want it, like any other ordinance; good or bad.

So do you have a problem with smoking being banned in public, government buildings were non-smokers HAVE to be on a daily basis? We should just be exposed to the smoke against our will?

And what about restaurants? Why should acrid cigarette smoke be a part of my $50 gourmet meal? It wasn't on the menu.

And what about the men and women who bartend or waitress? I can be protected in my line of work because there are sensible air quality laws. Why doesn't a waitress deserve the same air quality? Just because of the low skill nature of her job?

Hitler was a facist racial nationalist he was militaristic and revelled in guns and bombs, he also used lies and untruths to destabilse (like conservative extremists here) he reached accompodations with the catholic and protestant churchs in germany, he did not ban smoking, he was a non smoker and vegetarian but did not promote these as "isms": as he concentrated on his right wing fascist nazi campaigns.

I'm a smoker, but Hitler was addicted to speedballs. I'd hate to say that our lawmakers are too... who knows.

All of the minorities are being challenged right now. That's just the direction our country is going in. Right now we're just being 'homogenized' until something breaks.

as long as no one fights the bans, more will follow. no one has ever or will ever ban guns in the US. in ohio the smoking ban was passed with much help from churches and other cons.

The smoking ban is coming from grass roots. In many states, the constitutions have been amended by referendums from the People, not politicians.

I don't think the Hitler analogy works, but there is definitely as tyranny of the Masses our fore fathers were worried about. That is why US is a republic and not a Democracy.

Just off the top of my head...
1. limit the right of habeas corpus
2. encourage citizens to spy on their neighbors
3. demonize foreign immigrants
4. insist that everything our government does is right, merely because it's _our_ government that's doing it

Oh wait, those are all things we're already doing. Never mind.

Hate to break it to ya kid, but smoking bans in this country is no where even close to being new. they've been around for over 30 years. Take your Hitler theory and gas it.

I'd like to point out that the smoking bans are only in place in blue states, so blame that one on the Democrats. Who's fascist now?

destruction of religion.

Hitler was moving to have religion wiped away from society.

He wanted absolute power, and religion was in the way.
