THIS BOOK WAS ABOUT A BOY WHO HAD A DOG NAMED 'GYP' AND THEIR VOYAGE ON THE HMS SIRIUS WITH THE 1st FLEET TO AUSTRALIA IN 1788, IT WAS MY FAVOURITE BOOK AS A CHILD AND I WOULD LOVE TO GET A COPY IF POSSIBLE, I'M GUESSING IT WOULD BE LONG OUT OF PRINT, THE COPY I READ AS A CHILD WAS OLD THEN (ABOUT THIRTY FIVE YEARS AGO), IF ANYONE KNOWS THE NAME OF THE BOOK, (I THINK IT WAS CALLED 'HMS SIRIUS' BUT IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO, I COULD BE WRONG) OR OF THE AUTHOR, I WOULD BE GRATEFUL, IF ANYONE HAS A COPY, I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING IT IF THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO SELL IT, AT A REASONABLE PRICE OF COURSE!

I found a description a book called "John of the Sirius" by Doris Chadwick, a children's book published in 1955 by Thomas Nelson and Sons, London. The website gives a lot of plot information -- perhaps you can take a look and decide whether it's the book you're seeking. http://wonder.riverwillow.com.au/home_education/book_talk/doris_chadwick.htm

If it does turn out to be your book, you may want to consider requesting an interlibrary loan at your public library, because the used price for this one is exorbitant!

I think I too remember reading this book when I was young but I can't remember the name. Anyways I did a search on Amazon.com and it came up with a list of novels by Patrick O'Brian. I'm not sure if this is right, and what novel it is if you are talking about these books but you can read excerpts of them online to make sure and then buy new or used. This link may help you out: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-0535667-9886330?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=patrick+o%27brian HAVE A GREAT DAY!
