I have read all the authors you mention. I started in the early 60's reading Marvel & DC comics which were imported from the US and appeared at irregular intervals in my local secondhand bookshop. They also had some of the pulps by authors such as Vargo Staten and I was hooked. There wasn't much available and I bought everything I could get my hands on good or bad.

Re Ron Goulart I have just checked my ancient database and find I have copies of 'Vampirella 1', 'The Chameleon Corps', 'After Things Fell Apart', 'Gadget Man', 'Hawkshaw', 'What Became of Screwloose & Others', and 'The Curse of the Obelisk'. These cost me a grand total of £4.36. I confess that it has been so long and so many books since I read them that I don't remember them - which is why I have kept many old books in case the present plethora dries up I can haul them down from the attic and re-read them.

I agree about the wild ride, I grew up with all of those authors. To Andre Norton goes the praise (or blame :-) for getting me started, I read "Storm Over Warlock" & never looked back. Dickson's "The Alien Way" is a long time favorite, Poul Anderson to me is simply one of the most talented writers ever to work in the fields of SF & Fantasy & after discovering Norton the "Skylark" & "Lensman" series by "Doc" Smith just naturally came next. I must confess that I don't remember much about Ted Whites fiction but thought he did a commendable job as the editor of Amazing Stories & Fantastic in the late 60's/early 70's.
Another personal favorite is McCaffery's "Decision At Doona", one of the best first contact novels ever written.
An interesting list of authors & may I commend you on your excellent taste!

I've read Dickson and Poul Anderson. I prefer Anderson over Dickson. I read books by Norton and McCaffery. McCaffery writes sci-fi, but mostly I've only read Norton's fantasy novels. I've never read of Doc Smith, Edward Hamilton or Ron Goulart though.

Gordon R Dickson I do remember, but your question is not clear. I also remember Robert Aspirin, of course Piers Anthony and all his Xanth novels still appearing, Patricia McKillip and so many others that I have read throughout the years. I have read just about every Anne McCaffrey novel in print and of course Frank Herbert, Robert Hemlein (might be mispelled) and many others. Cheers to you.

recognise and read gordon r dickson and anne mccaffrey from this list. also piers anthony, robert aspirin (spelling?), christopher stasheff, terry brooks, mary gentle, diane duane, diana wynne jones, lloyd alexander, guy gavriel kay, (ok i'm getting off scifi and into fantasy now). plus i could continue this list for ages, so i'll stop now.

woo! scifi/fantasy/historical/anything you like! BOOKS ROCK. wild rides all the way! and beyond...
