ds lite has a brighter screen and its a bit smaller than the normal ds. they also come in different colors instead of only silver.

The differences are minimal, there is the size difference hence the name DS Lite and the DS Lite has a brighter, more vibrant screen. Other than that, they are virtually the same. I don't know if you know or not, but the DS can play gamboy advance games also but it sucks cause you can't use the touch screen.
I'm learning a way to download DS games from the internet to a memory card for your DS also.

Just the Size,Nintendo released the DS Phat as many call it about 3 years ago thats when i bought mine then people complained about size and wieght,So they released another DS called the DS lite it plays the same games and in most places cost the same except for the size and i think you can change the brightness lvls on the LITE.
So if your buying one for your kid of something just get a Lite if there the same price,Also look at Gamespot.com for more info on gaming.
