Now is not a good time to invest in stocks. Instead of stocks, you should try prosper.com. But only invest in loans with a credit rating of C or better and a DIT of less than 20%. I have had tremendous success with Prosper. Good Luck!

I think the best way to learn about the stock market is to first see what the best traders are buying and selling and why. This is the idea behind the site http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors. You can also read posts on investing from the best traders, as well as share your own investing ideas. There is also a charting feature , so you can see how your portfolio performs compared to the S&P 500.
Here are this month's best traders:

Once you understand what you are doing, then you can open an account at Scottrade.com - they offer $7 online trades - are start trading real money.
Good luck.

If you want to start a portfolio, I would suggest that you initially open a virtual portfolio. This will allow you to experiment with different methods of buying and selling shares. Once you are comfortable with what you are doing, go to a reputable broker - many online, and off you go. If you are investing small amounts, you are better to go with a broker that charges a percentage fee rather than a flat fee.

Not a game so no play. Diversified portfolio does well over time ADX PEO EFA IAU EWA. Open an account @ schwab.com or wherever & get started. Ignore that loan nonsense. No need for practice
