When we give up our desires, we either become lax or we become free; it all depends on what we are giving up our desires for and how we act after giving up those desires. If I give up my desire to become a writer, then I have nothing to strive for, no goal. If I give up my desire to run away from life when it gets tough, then I start to learn to accept and be thankful for what I have that is good.
