8 teams in each conference for 16 total. Top 3 in each division and the next best 5 recoreds overall in that conference. If you look on yahoo sports on the nba standings page you'll see the playoff standings on the right side.

The league is seperated in to 2 conferences, 3 divisions each. All 30 teams play 82 games, based on which division and conference they are in. The team with the most wins in each division advances to the playoffs. After each division champion has advanced, the teams with the next 5 best records in each conference advance to the playoffs as well. The matchups are based on "seeding". The teams are ordered, with the top 4 seeds in each conference being the 3 division champions and the team with the next best record, called a "wild card". These 4 teams are ordered by record. After that, the other 4 wild card teams receive seeds 5-8 in order of most wins.
The matchups are
1-8
4-5
3-6
2-7
Then they advance, the winner of 1-8 plays winner of 4-5, winner of 3-6 plays winner of 2-7... They play best of 7 series. The team that wins each conference tournament advances to the NBA Finals, where they matchup with each other in a 7 game series.

you have division winners, and then by the teams with the best records, there are 8 teams that make it from the east and 8 from the west

check out on nba.com, then go to standings and you'll have it there.

They update it very often so if a team moves, you'll get the change!

One thing: gonna wait 'til the end of the season to know which exact 8 teams are going to the playoffs!

They go by the top 8 best records in each confernce. Then the number...(round 1)
1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5

(semi-conf. finals) then the winner of {1 vs. 8} plays the winner of {4 vs. 5}
{2 vs 7} vs. {3 vs. 6}

(conf. finals) then the winner of {"1 vs. 8" and " 4 vs. 5"} vs. { "2 vs 7" and "3 vs. 6"}

the winner of that goes to the final....then the winner is the wor;d champs
