The Oscars are more recognised which makes it more prestigious. If you are an Oscar winner you get more recognition and also more pay.

I think the Oscars are most prestigious. If someone has won more than one of those different awards (i.e. Halle Berry has all four), they are always described as Oscar winner so-and-so. Screen Actor Guild is at the bottom of the list. No one ever says Screen Actor Guild award winner _____. Since the Golden Globes are voted on by the foreign press, I think they have less meaning for Americans. The Emmys are very prestigious for TV actors but there are a lot more given out. There are just so many categories - comedy, drama, talk show, reality show, etc - not to mention that there are both daytime and nighttime Emmy award shows. Even though I don't like how the Oscar winners are selected and often don't agree with the choices, I think it is the most visible and esteemed entertainment award.

Oscars are obviously the most prestigious for film. Emmys are the most prestigious for TV. Golden Globes can be considered a bellweather for Oscar nominations, so that is why people pay attention to them, but Oscars are more serious and prestigious.

Oscars, but they give the award to the most popular, not to the best performance, it's lame.
(for example. I know she was good, but how could Julia Roberts win for best actress against "requiem for a dream"'s Ellen Burstyn?)

I would thing the "Oscars" they date back to 1927 or 28, not positive. They appear to be the most glamouous wouldn't you say?
