A good friend of mine was found dead in the alley behind my house some years ago. He had become involved in street gangs, and was found in an abandoned car with his throat cut from ear to ear. 4 others were shot in a drive-by, they were not even in a gang, just wrong place at the wrong time. My cousin and 2 other friends were killed by gang members while getting a ride home from a known gang member from a nightclub one evening. The car they were riding in was shot at, and then ran off the road. It struck a freeway overpass, killing everyone in the car. I have never understood what attracts a kid to gangs. I grew up in Southwest Detroit an area well known for it's violent street gangs. My brothers and I had friends in gangs, but never got in them ourselves. About 95% of the kids I grew up with are either dead or in prison today. I am only 35. All of the sensless violence has got to stop!

18 year old cousin, just graduated, was killed in drive-by in front of her house at about 10:15 p.m. two years ago. She had no affiliation with any gang whatsoever, but one of her friends, who had just dropped her off, did. They shot at her friend and ended up shooting her in the head as a result.
