Religion served its purpose well as it gave man principles and moral guidelines to follow. Ok many a war and travesty has been commited in the name of religion, but without it there would have been utter anarchy. Before truly established police, man needed something to feel answerable too. As time has gone on and science and knowledge has increased we do qustion religion more. I know I do as I don't believe in any of the major religions anymore. The thing is that they do serve a purpose for many people throughout the world. They provide comfort and strength and more importantly hope. Russia was an atheist state under Stalin and that didn't stop the bloodshed or attrocities. Man is the problem ultimately and not the religion itself.
In summary even if all religions disappeared there would never be true global peace as its mans greed and selfish desire that is the real problem for us all and the planet we live on.

It is two different situations religions do not create of dictate the circumstances.Religions give the guidance to face the circumstances accordingly. If a religion is not capable to impart appropriate guidance in modren circumstance,it has become defunct.Islam claims to have panacea for all problems faced by mankind in the present age and time to come;as such it is still required. So, please do not equate it with other religions.

Many People realise that all religions are infact based upon each other (and before any disagrees look at facts.) I for example am not of religious beliefs yet many of my friends and family are. They want to believe that there is somewhere else to go once this life is over, and that there is someone out there that can change the way we live. If they want to do that and its upto them. Its like supporting a sports team.

This may not be so. No, I'm not going to say, "Christianity is the true religion!" or "Buddhism is the way of life!!" or anything like that. I used to be Christian, but I realised that it does not seem correct; the religion contradicts itself so many times.
People just have blind faith, that's all. They wish to believe, just so they have a place in their 'heaven' in case the religion is true.

The point of a religion is that it is a belief, it is not provable or disprovable, it is not false or true.
In Christianity the creed starts with 'I believe in one god' its what people believe in not what they state as being truth.
Some extreme religions and sects preach 'truth' but if it is intolerant of opposition it has stopped being a belief and becomes dogma.
Move on is just another way of saying f%$£ off, why should people 'move on' when they sincerely believe in something?

GOD IS NOT AN INSTITUTION nor has he ever been!
All religions are man made, all doctrine and biblical texts are written by men and altered through the centuries to befit the times and change in modernisation of the world and mans intelligence.
The biggest cause of war and turmoil in the world is Religion. without it the world would be a better place.
I do not need a church or a religion to worship God or to have faith in him, which is the biggest failing of Man kind!
Strip away the religion and all is left is faith...maybe people need to discover the purpose of this and have faith in their love and spiritual consciousness of GOD...

The human race hasn't advanced far enough. Most of us think we have but then that's nothing new. Too many people believe their opinions are carefully thought out facts.
"The key to true knowledge is knowing that we know nothing"
I love the quote but can't remember who said it.
That is not to say that all religion IS wrong. I'm not religious but I don't claim to be right.

So,let me get this straight..I should give up my beliefs in my religion because you are telling me the "real" truth. If I don't see it the same way you do,I am stupid.Hmm..Kind of sounds like the same opinions people like you bash religious zealots about.
What I don't understand is why do you care what anyone else's beliefs are?I certainly don't care what yours are. That's the beauty of freedom. We have the choice.

I am not religious but i think you are being very disrespectful to those who are. If someone believes in something then who are you or who is anybody to question that? If it makes them happy or brings them comfort then what is the problem? as far as i am concerned i think people are free to believe what they like. If you dont want to be religious then dont be! just dont try and force your beliefs onto other people.

The oldest religion of the world Hinduism possesses the answers to any number of questions people ask. In this ever living religion, the Non-believers of God are also given the freedom to speak and God in His incarnations answered all these questions aptly. God incarnated as Lord Krishna and propounded the great BhagawatGita, the essence of Holy Vedas (hymns) in which he says all the religions lead to one God, viz Lord Mahavishnu (Himself). You are at freedom to question me more.
