causes of stillbirth generally fall into one of three different categories: birth defects in the baby, problems with the placenta or umbilical cord, or maternal illnesses or conditions which may sometimes affect pregnancy.About one-fourth of babies who are stillborn have one or more birth defects that are responsible for their death.placenta and umbilical cord are the baby’s "lifeline" for oxygen and nutrients. Problems in either one may completely cut off or severely interfere with the needed flow of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the baby.Certain illnesses in the mother, such as diabetes or hypertension, and their treatments, sometimes cause stillbirths. An increased risk for stillbirth is also associated with the use of certain recreational drugs, particularly cocaine.

There are a huge number of factors. Sometimes it's basicly a late "miscarriage" when the baby will die due to a defect of the heart or brain. There are times when an injury to the mother can cause too great of trauma (car accident or a bad fall). Then there are times when things can go wrong with the cord placement or the placenta.

My mom had a "freak" accident when she was pregnant with a sister of mine. She was rocking my oldest sister who was around 2.5 years old. She went to get out of the chair and she felt a pop she said. My dad took her to the ER to check things out. Turns out with the positioning of the baby and when she went to stand up, the baby's neck snapped. She delivered her stillborn at 8 months along. They found out the findings during an autopsy.

Things happen, and sometimes it's beyond our control! Good Luck and God Bless to ALL pregnant women.
