Albatrosses do not eat penguin chicks but they are scavengers and will eat dead penguins at sea. The birds that do take and eat live penguin chicks in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic are the skuas which are like big brown seagulls. Sheathbills will also take chicks and eggs. Giant petrels will eat dead penguins and penguin chicks on land.

In more temperate regions, the penguins are burrow dwelling so their chicks are not exposed to predators apart from snakes. Chicks in the open could be taken by crows and various raptors such as kites and hawks.
