We all know racism still exists in this country but what do you think is the solution? How bad do you think it is? What effect do you think MLK's speech is having on our society and nation today?

Please be respectful here. If I find ppl being hateful, I will delete the question and there will be no participation. If you post it, I will report you.

I honestly believe racism will always be a part of human culture. Whether it's black vs white, rich vs poor, old vs young, etc.

The best we can do is try our best individually to overlook a persons skin color, bank account, or age and respect them for who and what they are, as MLK said "...the strength of their character."

There's not a lot that can be done about racism, unless people choose to change themselves, first. Most people don't believe they are racist. They believe that they feel founded in their hate and disrespect for others. I personally don't see how MLK's speech is helping anymore than it could have by now. I think the reason racial hate is growing, is because our country is growing much more cuturally diverse. This is America. People think that they have a right to live here because this is the country of "rights". So, we are seeing a clash of many cultures, and I don't really think a good chunk of the country can handle it. Here's a bigger question...do natural born Americans have the right to feel this way? Who's to say that they don't? It's not up to me. I'm only in charge of the way I act, and the way I treat people. I'm also a mom...my husband and I are responsible for the way we raise our children. We can either raise them to be hateful, disrespectful people....or we can do what we're doing now....raising them to believe that everyone is responsible for their own actions. We are raising them to be nice to everyone that is nice to them, and we are raising them to ignore those that are hateful. We will continue to do this as long as we can.

Wow, you're strict.

I don't believe there's anything we can do about it. Most people are not racist and of those that are, very few act on it. To some extent it's human nature. Call me defeatist but I'm not sure there's anything we can do.
