"Hi, my name is ***** and I'll be your server this evening/afternoon. May I start you out with a drink or some appetizers while you look at the menu?"
Worked for me. I almost always got good tips, unless they were stingy.

I'm so and so, I'll be your server this evening. Would you like something to drink?

i think it's more personal to say you'll be taking care of them...to say you're their server is a bit obvious. but still follow up by asking about drinks...and a tip if you want to be a stellar server...always bring extra napkins before they have to ask for them! i always leave a good tip to servers who do that!

Server, definitely. Taking care of you has a lot of suspicious implications.

What about "Hi I am Your Freaking Server, get over yourself and tell me what the !@##&*! you gonna drink?"
Now that would be refreshing for a change.

We actually HAVE to say "Welcome to *******. My name is So & So, can I get YOUR name please?" we have to treat pp like guests in our home blah blah blah. I HATE it & pp look at me like I'm crazy.
HOWEVER when I go out, I like "I'm so and so and I will be your server, what can I get you to drink" AND PLEASE don't sit or squat on my booth. I HATE that. You're NOT my guest, you're my server.
