if your idea has potential and you're incapable of fabricating a prototype .make a sketch ,list it's features, perhaps a little narrative hand written story about how you got the idea(what prompted you to create your invention),what type material should be used to produce it,your target market area(i.e. does it benefit industry, safety, kids, hygene, etc.) in other words who is going to want your product?after you do all that stuff ....make a few copies and put them in a secure place.take your ORIGIONAL DRAWINGS & the story you wrote about your motivation to invent this product etc. and mail it to yourself using CERTIFIED MAIL from the post office and once you receieve it put it away in a secure place(a safe deposit box is ideal but if you don't have one a shoebox will work or tape it under your dresser(you get the idea)etc. DON'T OPEN IT this way if someone were to steal your idea.you would have the U.S.Postal Service's post mark on your sealed envelope proving that you had the idea before the the thief did and can provide evidence to corroborate your case....then talk to a patent attorney.they are'nt cheap but if you have a money making idea he can help you find investors to back you financially...one more thing ....don't forget me ! good luck .send me an e-mail and let me know how many millions you've made!!! and don't stop here keep the ideas coming..if this one does'nt catch on,try try again , example...about 25 years ago some guy came up with "the pet rock" and made a bunch of $$$ people actually paid $$$ for an ordinary rock for their office and called it a pet! it's all in the marketing !! luck to you: walt g.

first thing to do, no matter what is patent the idea, if you dont then you may find it being stolen and theres not a lot you can do about it, once you have done this, in order to avoid heavy costs of prototype manufacture, go to a company who is already in this line, and ask them to make a prototype in return for a licence to manufacture, you will then find yourself reaping the benefits of the product without the finacial outlay involved. Obviously you will have legal costs to pay for the patenting of the product, but the lawyers will also be able to advise you how to go about licencing to outside companies.
