a) nope, a storm system can cover areas much greater than a mountain, or even a mountain range.
b) yes, the frontal space between high pressure and low pressure will produce stormy weather.
c) hot air is light as it expands from the heat rises creating a low pressure system (not necessary stormy). Cold air is heavier than expanding hot air, and sinks causing a high pressure system.
d) yes and no. A low pressure system can form over a dry hot land mass as it will heat the air (see c above). But dry large flat land areas can also be cold, like northern Canada, Alaska etc. and cold air will form a high pressure area.
