The federal government should start by legalizing it for medical purposes, then see what happens from there

In my opinion, yes. The reasoning behind this is the majority of people using this drug is for pain management. It is better for all to have it legalized than some to go and buy it off the street. if it is good for medicinial purposes then why not legalize it? Alcohol is also considered a durg and you can readily buy it. What is the difference? At least it is not harmful to your liver as other pain management drugs are.

I've worked in substance abuse treatment and research for a number of years, and I would rather see marijuana legal than alcohol.

Alcohol is more destructive to both the individual and society.

Yes, and taxed just like alcohol and tobacco. Think of the billions of dollars that go to organized crime gangs now that could be added to local economies and tax bases.

As someone else said, prohibition does not work, it only creates crime.

They ought to give it away in the prisons to keep the violence down as well. Nobody gets violent on weed; unless of course someone else nabs the last twinkie in the box...

I think it should be legalized. It is less harmful than alcohol, how many people are in car accidents, or get violent because of pot? It also does help with pain and nausea caused by Chemo therapy.

It could also help with anxiety disorders.

All drugs must be legalized. Prohibition laws have failed. Demand is strong and growing. Would it be reasonable to keep banning abortion? No. Why because WOMEN WERE DISREGARDING THE LAW AND PUTTING THEMSELVES IN GRAVE DANGER OF DYING PERFORMING DO IT YOURSELF ABORTIONS.
With Drugs we have the same situation DEMAND GROWING, DISREGARD OF LAWS, PEOPLE DYING FROM TAINTED DRUGS but EVEN WORSE HIGH PRICES OF DRUGS FEED THE POWER OF MAFFIA, GANGS, AND TERRORISTS.
Go watch the film "Traffic" with Michael Douglas it's a good story about the failure of the War on Drugs.

Yes! Along with prostitution and gambling. All of America could be like Nevada and not have state tax. Tax the above mentioned
along with the churches and we could have a surplus like no other.

All depends on the purposes which you intend to use it for, in Holland for example it is already de-criminalised as a recreational drug, though it is still very controlled, in many parts of the world it is legally available for medicinal purposes, in this case i feel it should be legalised generally, but not for recreational use.

hell yea, it's a plant for god's sake! God put it on this earth for us to enjoy, what the hell gives the government the right to make a plant illegal? What if they tried to make roses illegal?Would we stand for that? Tobacco and alcohol are much worse for your health and the people around you but that's okay?Plus all the time and money cops waste arresting people just for weed, it's ridiculous!!
